Adoption FAQ's
1. How much is the adoption fee?
Cats & kittens that will be neutered/spayed through SCPN – $150
Dogs & puppies that will be neutered/spayed through SCPN – $175
For those animals that are old enough to be spayed/neutered prior to adoption, this fee includes the cost of having the procedure
For those animals too young for the procedure prior to adoption, a portion of the adoption fee will go towards the cost of spaying / neutering at the appropriate age
All animals that are adopted from SCPN will have been spayed /neutered if they are old enough prior to the adoption. If not, all applicants acknowledge that the animal MUST be spayed or neutered at the appropriate age. Proof of the procedure must be provided to SCPN.
All prospective applicants must complete a pre-adoption application form which will be subject to approval. We reserve the right to deny any adoptions. Once approved, an adoption application will be completed.
Please note: All dogs and cats must be spayed or neutered; cats must not be declawed.
2. Do I need a pet carrier to take my new pet home?
Yes. We require that everyone bring their newly adopted pet home in a carrier, unless it is a large adult dog.
3. What if things don't work out after I take my pet home?
We have a couple of options to remedy this situation. When adopting, we offer a program called Foster to Adopt which allows you to spend a trial week with the animal before concretely deciding if you want to keep them or not. If you didn’t do the Foster to Adopt program and have exhausted your options with the animal, we will allow pets to be returned to the shelter. However, there is a $30 surrender fee for cats and a $50 surrender fee for dogs. Also, the return must be approved by our Executive Director and the animal must pass a temperament test before they can be brought back into the shelter. (SCPN policy?)
